Yes. It was common for the rudder to be turned out during slow flight. There were a couple of approaches. One was to release a spring loaded rudder to a fixed stop. The other was to link it to the throttle. My preferrence was the fixed stop.

It seemed to help to a point.

Bob, you can actuate the rudder by using a small piece of L/O cable attached to the hook. Up thru the tail into the rudder. Thats what I am using on the current profile Guardian I am building, I use a torsion spring made from music wire and use a positive stop so the rudder doesnt interfere with the elevator. I have about 3/8" of movement. I'll try to take a picture tonight if you are interested.

Leadout cable gives me a whole nuther media to work with.. Rudder, flaps, speed breaks and tail hook 

I think Sparrows came a little later on but maybe a pod of 2.75" free fire rockets and at least the nose section gun ports for the 50 cal MGs would work.
