If you happen to notice the scores are kinda close, that's cause all seven flyers used the same model. Other than the owner, this was the first carrier flight for all the entrants.
The model is an old slow combat plane with an LA25RC and a Brodak landing gear. A hook was field-fabbed from a coat hanger. The deck was made from caution tape and combat streamers.
The original object was to let some people who had never flown 3-line throttle control take a poke at it until the airplane was used up. However, at the end of the day, seven guys had made 15 flights with not so much as a broken prop. Everybody was able to do a high-low-landing flight by the second attempt.
Once the first round scores were up, it evolved into an all-out CONTEST, with slower-and-slower lows in a serious effort to move up the totem pole. This big model, originally built for a hot Fox 35, now goes 57 MPH high with the addition of the third line, undercarriage, and LA25RC. It FLYS at low speed, as opposed to hanging and hovering. Low airspeeds ranged between 24 and 19 MPH.
The bellcrank is one of those contraptions made up of two old steel bellcranks and it flys vel enough.
