what is by far the best way to build landing gear on a profile plane ? what configuration is the best. ???

I have used both music wire and dura-aluminum gear. I prefer wire, usually 1/8, but  5/32 can be used on a heavy plane. I mount the gear on the fuselage with nylon clips. If possible I try to make the gear in one piece. I have occasionally put the gear in the wing  and currently have a profile setup that way. I have not had any problems with the wing mount. It seems no matter what aluminum alloy I have tried, it bends to easily upon impact with the deck.

A search of the forums for "profile landing gear" might find something. I have seen photos on the forums of a couple real good setups but can't recall where or when. Sure agree on trying to use aluminum, I would think wire is much better for a carrier airplane. Just going by observations of different gear on less than ideal landings with stunt ships.

I agree on the music wire being the best choice.  Aluminum will take it but need "re-bending" after most landings.  I think 2-piece gear legs are OK, IF the through the fuselage hole is beefed up with something.  I use a 1/4-20 brass bolt epoxied into the motor mount beams for up to 5/32 wire and the two landing gear clips with through 4-40 bolts & nuts.   

A carrier landing is very equivalent to a controlled crash.  Full size LG design tests include a 32G drop test!  Land based is only 14G.

As far as landing procedure.  The best I've seen is:

Make sure you're lined up during your low speed laps.  Give the signal when you make your last low speed lap, (or tell the judges ahead of time you will land the lap after the low speed ends).  Start a gradual descent as you go around with the object to hit the deck on that lap.

I've tried to do it, but usually panic and have to go around.   Takes a lot of practice but works like a charm for those who take the time for practice.  Usually my first practice flight is my first official attempt!

Bob, I prefer using wire and I have learned to duplicate the setup from the Brodak guardian. I use 1/8 dia and I also install a cross brace which has made the gear extremely durable. Best bender to use is the large bender from K&S. Its made things a lot easier. See you at Brodaks
