Joe,
The Shoemakers did not fly. The pictures of their planes were from a previous NATS. They were present and Everette timed for a while one day.

The first two days were hotter than I have ever seen at Muncie, near 100 each day, Unofficial day had rain til 1PM with lightening, which is why so many dropped out. I dropped because it was my 4th day and I did a lot of scoring that day, Linda scored the AMA days, but she doesn't know the unofficial events well enough without my help.

One major problem running a formal event at the NATS is manpower. There simply aren't enough folks, everyone has to help out in addition to flying, There was no one that didn't work at one time or another. This wears people out, especially in the kind of heat we had. Through the entire contest I only had two non fliers that helped time (one day each) and then not full time, and my wife Linda who did most of the scoring, and a lot of misc. support.

I did get some Boy Scouts to help setting up the deck, which was greatly appreciated.

John, even tho I wasn't there I want to thank you and the mrs. for doing the work.   I know from experience it takes manpower to do any event.   It it hadn't been volunteers I too would have been up a creek with out a paddle.  Thanks go to Ted also for the reports in NATS News.   H^^

Due to job responsibilities, I was unable to attend except for the lounge acts on Thursday.  The scores are nothing to brag about.  But we lost five hours out of an eight-hour day due to a rain delay and moving the deck.  There must have been about ten events on the menu.  Some people were also committed to speed and racing.   So there were barely enough people on hand to fly, launch, and judge.

Anyway, thanks to Mrs. Vlna for the patch job.  My finger will recover.

If you do a little bit every day it will get done, or you can do it tomorrow.

At least on Thursday, when we flew the fun events, we had limited time & manpower once the rain stopped.  Nobody was left for much photography.  The Nats News had a full page pitcher of the deck during the rain.  The plane under the blue towel is mine.

Ted Kraver took lots of pictures. Most of the rest of us were very busy running a formal contest like the NATS with limited manpower. I am sure Ted will be putting pics in the Hi-Lo news.
