brodack bearcat
« on: January 04, 2008, 04:45:30 PM »
Finaly got around to building Bearcat all framed ready for sanding. I'm going with thunder tiger pro 36. What would be my best choice for a fuel tank and what do you use to conect throttle to bellcrank.  I've never built or flown a carrier before and need info Thanks John

John a proven method is to use a 2.56 threaded rod from the bellcrank to the throtle arm. use a good threaded clip/ connecter on the engine side to adjust the throw from the bell crank to the engine. a simple "z" bend at the bellcrank is all one needs. hope this helps.

I suggest a 3 oz wedge tank. Installed just like any profile stunt plane. J bolts thru the fuselage then rubber bands to hold the tank works for most designs of tank. You could solder tabs on the tank and screw it to the fuselage. Brodak sells these. You could use a plastic clunk tank too. You aren't flying upside down so the vent and fill can be on the top if you want. The instruction sheet on the older kit shows a wedge under the tank to tip it downward, but no uses one or really knows why it was done that way in those days. Good luck, these are very good flying planes. How about a photo.    Mike

I got some Brodak (J.Roberts) Bearcat and Skyraider plans.  I built the Bearcat, but changed it so much it won't pass for Brodak anymore.

I just built a tank and put the controls on the bottom.

Don't overlook placing the tank (Sullivan plastic type) on the inboard side of the fuse. I have done this on several carrier planes as well as stunters. It really works well, and another benifit is that it frees up the throttle pushrod extension. attached is just one of my latest carrier profiles. While it does not show the tank on the inboard side of the fuse it does show how open the throttle pushrod can be.

David, don't forget, the Clown Racing Rules say that the tank must be located on the outoasrd side of the fuse.

That construction looks great.  Can't tell from pictures, but, do you have a slider on it?  I have had planes with sliders and spent more time trying to keep them flying and repairing.  Nothing like having the slider trip right after take off and very little control left.  Now for the finish pictures.  Later, DOC Holliday

No slider ,this is my first carrier plane, just kept it nice and simple. I built as per the plans, but did add webbing between ribs to stiffen wing a little. Thanks John
