Airkill combat models Warbirds
« on: January 01, 2012, 09:49:27 AM »
I took a look at their site and they have some nice looking kits. These are RC combat and sport scale planes but look like size would be good for Class 1. I sure like WW2 Navy planes like Hellcat/ Wildcat/Corsair, then later Bearcat. Britt Seafury and other USA / Skyraider/Mauler/Guardian.  They plan on making a Zero soon.  When I was a kid they had a program on TV called Navy Log. Great series than ran for several years.  Mucho Carrier action and it was real life battles.

I have tried to reach Airkill by email and phone several times over the last 5 days and have had no reply or return phone call.  Are they still in bussiness?  Website works fine but no reply thru the site either.  Larry HB~>

I knew Jeff (owner of AirKill) when he had a hobby shop in Sacramento California. I will try to get back in touch with him. A few years ago he closed down his shop. There is a good chance that these kits are no longer available. I hope I'm wrong because they were excellent. We talked about converting the Bearcat to C/L carrier but it never got beyond the planning stage.  8)

I have the Sea Fury kit from Airkill and the model has been 95% done for several years now. I just haven't taken the time to finish the model and get it flying. Other CL scale projects have taken priority.

They also released a Fiberglass fuselage and foam wing kit for the F4F Wildcat, I also have one of the those still in the box.

Last I heard he was out of business.

Hello Fred.  I would like to know the sizes of these models.  WS and fuselage length and engine sizes.  So far I still have no reply from them.  Pete may be right.  Might not be available anymore ???   Larry :(

The Sea Fury had a 38" span and is 31" long and a 5" diamter cowl.  The wing area was 283 squaure inches.

The Wildcat has a 38" span, 273 square inches for the wing. The kit came with a fiberglass fuselage and a foam wing.

I picked these kits up at the IMS hobby Show in California during the 1990's, I mentioned to the owner that these were a perfect size for CL and offered help on instructions on how to show a conversion from RC to CL but he did not take up on that offer.

Thank's Fred.  I wanted to get the Airkill Hellcat but didn't know what the wingspan was.  I will assume the WS is equal to your kits?  I just called Airkill's number again and no answer.  Just ring ring and ring! Larry HB~>

According to "RCUniverse" the man quit making the kits several years ago.   Ony way to get them is watch the classifieds or E-Bay. H^^
