.15 Tiapan Gold head
« on: April 19, 2013, 08:22:02 AM »
So thanks to Bill B. and Mike P., I've finished my first .15 carrier plane (Bill's Sniper).  It's powered by a .15 Tiapan Goldhead with a OS .25FP crab (2A I believe).  What prop should I use? % of nitre?  I hear they are pretty much a Cox Conquest.  Mike told me what he runs on his Conquest, would that work?  I have run this motor on 30% nitre and a 7x3 PAC, it was like a rocket.

Duke, I have no experience with a Taipan but around here we have found the APC 7X4 to work the best. Somtimes we trim them down to 6.750X4 early on when the engines are new.
Good Luck

Once upon a time I had a Taipan 15. It is very much like a Conquest. Many of the parts will exchange. I run my Conquest on 25%-30% nitro, but not really for speed reasons. The engine just throttles better and runs nicer than it did on 10%. Like Wayne said, a 7x4 prop is a good place to start, but try different props and let the stopwatch tell you which is best. Good luck with your Sniper. How about a picture?

Wayne/Bill
I can hear Mike's "I told you so" coming.

It's not completely finished and that seems like the paint brush cleaning boy showing the artist his re-make of the masters painting. ;D

Duke, since you get no extra points for exceeding the 72MP_H fast speed my suggestion is to try ever inceasing % of Nitro content.  Start with 15% and with the suggested prop as above increase the % until you consistently hit the top speed for .15.  Why spend the money for 30% fuel if 20% will do the trick.  Just my thoughts. Oh, Ginny is determined to go with me to Portland, so I guess I will see you Sunday.
