15 carrier options
« on: October 07, 2010, 10:44:16 PM »
I'm going to convert my super clown ARF to a 15 carrier plane. I have a OS 15 CVA enroute.

Without flaps the wing is 270 Sq in. Is that too much wing to start off with?

I'm removing the bellcrank from inside the wing.
I'm a little confused as to which bellcrank to buy from Brodak. Can you guys suggest which model is correct for a 15 size plane?
Is there another option for the bellcrank assy?

Are there any kits for 15 carrier?

Thanks

Mike

If you want the "Brodak" points, you have the Flying Clown (not super), Circus Prince, and Junior Lightning Streak.

Anything is possible, but a Super Clown is least on the edge of being too big for a 15.  The plane was designed for a 29-35.  With modern engines, a 25 is plenty.  But a 15 is long stretch.

Since you can't use a slider in 15, indoor controls are OK.

Mike,
Paul's comments are right on, the flying clown has a about 200 sq inches and it is a great 15 carrier plane. Most of the models I have made over the years are 180-220 sq in. Less than 180 is too little unless you build very light. I do have a TBF @ 150 sq in, but it is electric, all foam and only weighs 15oz all up flying weight. Hangs great though!

Super clown cut down to 235 sq".
OS 15 CVA
1st flight today
Setting up the leadouts and lines was a real head scratcher. Got it very close on 1st try.
Its not that fast, but it is a plane to get my feet wet.
