I have used this technique on a couple of arf's---the biggest problem with them is getting the belly pan to look/fit right. I have covered two belly pans with silkspan/dope before attaching to covered/doped fuse---just doesn't work well for me.
If you are able to slide the wing into the fuse (like is done on a profile) it should be OK, then you only have to
figure out what, if anything, to do about fillets.
So far, my best approach is to cover the wing before attaching to the fuse and to cover the fuse/tail assembly before attaching the wing---still leaves the fillet problem. This worked well for a rebuild of my smashed Oriental.
