Tapering a stab and elevator

I'm building a Junar and the stab (on the plans) shows 3/4" thick and is supposed to be tapered.  I haven't built anything thicker than 1/2" and pretty much always a flat stab (not airfoiled or tapered).  What is a good way to take it down to 1/4 or 3/16" at the tip (from 3/4 at the root)?

They sell "T" bar sanders, mine is 24" in length. After that I have an aluminum level. You can buy sticky back sand paper.

Jig the piece up so not to oversand. There's a Thread about doing tapered flaps, basically the same task.

I used the Great Plains 44" sanding bar and a 4 ft long flat work surface.
This stab was .5" at the root tapering to .25" at the tip. 
You can adjust the slope of taper by the distance from tip of stab that the bar rides on the work surface.
Remove sandpaper from end of bar where is slides on work surface.
