squaring up a profile stunter
« on: July 07, 2007, 08:48:07 AM »
I square up the tail feathers on a stunter. Here is how I do a profile. The model is a "Trophy Trainer".

The forms used to hold the flaps at neutral are from the TutorII ARF and fit this wing too. Also many others .   The fuselage jig is one I made copying one presented on another forum a few years

back . I also use squares to make sure things are vertical, plumb and square.  On the stab I use a small, light  bubble level along with the 3/16" spruce sticks to get things square.  H^^

The only thing I would add to this is to be certain that the fuse jig uprights are not FORCING the fuse to be straight while in the jig.  It needs to just sit there in its free state while the wing and stab are aligned.  If you force it straight, or take out a twist, then glue in the wing and stab, as soon as you remove the whole thing from the jig, the fuse relaxes and the alignment is off.

I use a similar setup that has adjustable square backtops to square the stab and wing to the fuse.  Same setup for alignment of full fuse stunter as well.

FWIW

S?P  Ty, That looks like a good way to do things. I like the idea about using a depth or length gage to get the stab and wing aligned also.
For a fellow not "from around here" you do right well...LOL...
