Remember when?

The thread on silk covering in the old time forum got me thinking.
In the late 60s and early 70s some of us used to use cut offs from some of the hippy styled panty hose as wing covering. Some of the paisley and flower patterns were pretty colorful.
I wonder if anyone has some pictures from that era showing the old nylon panty hose covered wings.

Here's one covered with an old silk shirt. Close?
I tried the pantyhose on a couple of combat wings "back when". I remember it taking a TON of dope to fill. Strong, though.

Ray,
Thats the sort of thing I was looking for. Some of the patterns were pretty wild looking.

Sure makes for an ugly plane, but as covering it worked really well. And the price was right...the shirt was a throwaway. Come to think of it, it made an ugly shirt too.

After I crashed my first CG Shoestring, I didn't have any more silkspan, silk, or anything, and no hobby shop. Wanting to fly dictated that I took a pair of "nylons", stretched them down the wing, and doped them on. Didn't look too bad once they were painted!
Hey, what's a 12 year old to do?
