At the moment its heading this way .

Had it all done very nicely , with the scoop etc in 98 , but a ascarlewt woman said she " Dropped a Load of Steel through it "
and a few others . I saw here destroying them . Seqquentially . A years work down the drain & a foul odour for Melbourn fo life ,
in my books . ANYWAY .

Threw this togeter last week or so . But sides are to soft ' Contest ' 3 / 32 . Planks are 1/8 & lower under ( shown ).
The tops a sheet of 1/4 let in between upper 1/8 runners . BUT i got it ( pressed Down 0 to low forward .
Working at 3 am with wombles tittering adjacent to get me Isomnic .

Tip ribs are 60 apart . Owes a lot to Al Rabe but designed outside his formular , though parralell .
Scale Dimensions for datumns , Tryn ta keep the aft light ( Tissue Cover ) and C.G. Fwd , with a
Airfoil to suit , so it ' Points ' a way , an hopefully ' hooks in ' to the turns , and doesnt bounce .

We Shall see , a way to go yet . doghouse up next - the F51H type as in the picture .

Ive used this ' planked Curve ' tecnique severaly . But the P 47 'l have a be Moulded if its for The Stalker .the bog Stalkers .

This gets you a P 51 without a lot of set up , but ou need to use a ruler to 1/32 of a inch . which is o.k. if you can pick a tength of a m.m.,
But a eyeglass , magnifying specs , strong light (s) etc arnt a bad idea .Easiest to lay out cut grid on formers , Tracing wobles it and
pasteing a photocopy on seems to get it out, nomatter how much cares ensued . So A TASK is to ' parrallellogram ' the bulkheads
and New Blade in the knife , trace cut the angles. And Mind the Fingers with the new blade - as itll go straight though em .

The G 51 turns a dual 11 x 5 Zinger ( 4 blade ) effortlessly , if it comes to it . But the old Como 51 is virtually a last pdp ST 60 cousin
so anticipate itll be fine with a 12 x 5 zinger .The G 40'll fit too , if I go fine pitch ( 4 in . ) seems at 20 knots 4 in is better ,
but as the wings just sheeted LE & capstrips aft of the spar , im not anticipateing its my ' windy weather ' model .

CONSTRUCTIVE criticism & discussion welcomed .
much to do and others on the stove , so it might not be nailed together ill christmass . So dont hold your breath .

Did this start out as a kit? What/who's design?

Matt,

The Mustang is a great aircraft to model, Seen the real deal a few times.

I'm glad you have no issues talking about your construction. It's good to share so thanks for that.  H^^

About your "planking?" You said planking right?

How did you cut the planking strips?

I believe you said you used 1/8" thick planking. Could you have used 3/32" thick planking?

Why did you use planking?

I gotta tell ya, I'm really curious about your choice of using planking on your fuselage.  ;D

Have you ever used planking on a CL model before?

I Tried Ferro Cement moulding , but it was a bit heavy ! .  ;D >:D <=

Welll , . . .

' planking ' is generally something about right , maybe .

The sides are 3 / 32 or suchlike , but the ' curves ' need to be caught . So strips of sheet are nailed on , trimmed to the next ' cut line '
and the next strip added . Three Runs over sides & a 1/4 sheet let in for top . The rear underside needs only one run @ 45 deg .

Lets you capture the curves , carving back at the longitudeinal joins first with 80 / 100 Wt. on a block , or the dreaded coarse file .
as long as it doesnt slip .

Theres a TYPHOON ( More Violent Hurriocane ) in the design section - which youll see how it works .
Planked things five centuries ago. Butt Joined Cliker Built . ;D

SEASONED timbers essential , which is the problem with the grotty sides - though the dope stiffens it up .
the sides were GREEN timber , though thats not the half of it , when wood cracks across the grain or chunks , STORED - it aint quite right . :(
Inteligently done , the 1/8 strip ( these are around 9/16 max - then trimmed to conture ) act as lngitudeinal co joined spars
so is immensly strong / ridgid . Which is the objective. No flexy fliers . Wobbly Wizzbangs were didaianed by even a pre unit Bonneville.
unless it was a 59 .
