CA debonder works great on epoxy
« on: August 14, 2010, 01:20:41 PM »
I was gluing hinges on a new plane this morning. Using 30 minute epoxy and managed to get a couple of the hinges glued solid. I scraped away at them a little and was about to give up when I spotted a bottle of Brodak debonder. The only time I ever used debonder before today was to get rid of the fake fingernail glue (ca I think) that Linda spilled in the sink. Well I figured I'd just give it a try on the stuck hinges and just a drop freed them up in about two seconds.

Yer welcome Lee. I tugged on the hinges and they're stuck in there real good. Just a drop of debonder is all it took.
I wish I'd have tried it years ago.

Thanks for a great tip! I have an elevator that the epoxy didn't harden and i ended up pinning the hinges, but they still aren't real free yet as the epoxy must have ran some and is like goo on the hinges. I may try this tonite!!

I only used the debonder on the hinges and the epoxy was only an hour or so old. I don't know how it would work on well cured epoxy. Just a drop per stuck hinge was all it took.

Yes, unless it has acetone or something in it, too, but it might be cheaper just to get a PA .75.

Acetone could be used as an ignition improver. It is/was used in Europe with no nitro fuel in the winter to spice up the fuel.

Thankyou Ray for confirming that it works. I didn't know if anyone else would get the same results. #^
