New Project - Sort of a kit bash
« on: February 17, 2015, 11:31:03 AM »
So, I started a new project finally. It's sort of a kit bash except what I'm really doing is starting with a kit (nice RSM piece I've had around for years) and modifying the crap out of it. I'm sure Ted will have horrible things to say to me later.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

It's sort of a Fancheration. Imitation wing, parts from other Ted mobiles along with some of my own stuff. I may call it Acceleration.

I'm waiting for Pat Johnston to cut me some parts and also to figure out what I'm doing with the wing and tailplane. Have to think that over. Fuse is started - man what a hack. I'm using some fuse parts from a kit along with some cut from stock. Been awhile - I'm having fun!

I'm thinking I'll call it Expropriation.

I think I've figured the rest of it out so will push forward. Probably pics in a couple of days.

Tom,

This will be about 50% Ted, 40% me and 10% Pat Johnston. Should be interesting, anyway. I feel I've sort of "expropriated" his design.   LL~

Looks like you cut out a lot of the ply doubler between F1 and F2.  Have you ever done that on an IC build ?

Yes, it will be electric. And yes, I cut out the doubler like that all the time. It's usually 1/64" ply but I used the 1/32" kit ply for this.

Wayne,

I have some pieces to fill there. I'm using a different wing. Pat is laser cutting me ribs and a spar right now. It is a much different airfoil. I had to make some fill pieces that will go in once I get the wing built. Gotta love kit bashing.

It's funny, how an "easy" kit-bash usually turns into more work than just starting from scratch. I'm in the third year now of my Nobler-bash, awfully Scarboroughlike. :##

Well, got the motor mount in but have to wait a bit to finish the nose. Bought the wrong collet adapter so I bought what I think is the right one and it's on the way. In the mean time, Pat's ribs came today and so I will start looking at framing up the wing tomorrow.

Wayne,

I always find it funny. It seems you work on parts, sometimes very small ones. You keep doing that then, it seems, in a single day, you glue them all together and - Shazam!- there is a plane sitting there. I'm a ways from that yet.

Hey, not a fair question. Mark's is framed up.

Here are a couple of pictures. The fuse is pretty much done with a hatch in the front. The bottom block is molded but sitting apart until the fuse is on the wing. Stab is done and the elevators are underway. And I finally got the silly wing jig together and the leading and trailing edges built. No snotty remarks about the screw up on the fuse that I had to retro fit. Sheesh!
