I like to go for the simple solutions that use stuff I have hanging around the shop. Basically I just pin the flap or elevator to a piece of 2x4 resting on the "2" side (this needs to sit up straight when flipped) as it sits on a flat surface. Then I flip it over and drill the hole at the point where I have already marked the centerline of the wood and the position of the hole. So far, so good and convenient. The only down side is that it only works for the straight trailing edges.
