"The Mark" of Excellence,

Marcus,

You must have strapped the wing in so it wouldn't move around?

I see your CF 3-blade. Where did that come from? Size? Gear also, same place?

Model is comming together and looking good. Paint is just around the corner.

Actually no i didn't Charles, it's hanging there 'cause the smell, wife and dope, not good friends... n1
The CF 3-blade is Brian Eather's, 13X3.75. The LG is by my friend Osni.
Just a few more details.... It's been hard, but I'll accomplish this in great style!!!

Is this what it's supposed to be like after sanding?
It fills much easier than silkspan and sands even easier #^ #^ #^ #^ #^

When you hollow out, how do you guage? I try to get so thin, I always go through in one or two areas. One guy told me he holds it up to a light.  n~

I remember one of the tapes that Windy used to do, he said if we didn't go thru to the surface while hollowing a block once in a while, we were not going thin enough.  He also showed using a light bulb to see the light showing thru the balsa.

They're available thru Stunt Hanger... Just go to the online shop and click on wheels.
I got 2 1/2".
I don't know the weight, but they're light....
Plus the fact that they do look good.... Won't need wheelpants.... 8) 8)

The "Mark" of excellence,

Took a look,

Sparky has some great offerings.

Those wheels are to small.

You build big models with small wheels, I build small models with large wheels.

I have no idea what that means, or if it's true.  n~

Actually, I'm spending time practicing for the Brazilian Championship, two weeks from now.
As next year I'll move up to Expert, it means that, for a very long time, this championship will be my last chance of winning... LL~ LL~
But I'm very close to finishing this ship... It's pouring today, so my practice got screwed...
Gonna have something for you.... ;)

Kudos on your compitition progress!  CLP**

Marcus, come a bit closer, I have to wisper and I don't want anyone else to hear this.  ;D

I have known guys that compete in classes well below their abilities. You can collect trophies quick this way.  n1

To bad about the rain. Two weeks can go by really quick when the days are limited because of the weather.

What model/models are you competing with?

So, I wasn't lazy at all today, in spite of a rainy afternoon that was calling for a nice nap... Z@@ZZZ
Now, I have to hollow the engine cowl and shape the intakes.
Well, like the song: "It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock'n'roll..."
It's been a long way, but it's been fun, and I'm happy I haven't screwed up yet... LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~

Looks good Marcus! Really like the canopy shape.

One comment for future builds. Tape Around where you are going to put the filler, so that it will give you a clean edge once you get it all set up the way you want. Then you pull the tape off and get a nice edge. Also I like to take my finger and in one continuous motion run down the filler and get rid of any excess that there is before I pull the tape off.

Just a suggestion

Thanks Matt

I did tape it! I must have done some bad taping then..
But on the right side there was a "gap" due to a broken edge  HB~> and I thought of using the superfil to solve the problem. I might have to touch it up though...
I'm happy you liked the canopy, took me the whole afternoon to get it shaped the way I wanted..
There are two things I can't go without anymore, SLC and Superfil... OK 3 things, there's the carbon veil too... ;D

Oh I see, I didn't realize that extra amount on the top was to fill a gap.

Super fil is so much better than epoxy-lite that I was previously using for fillets and such.

Yeah, superfil is the best!!
I use the firger trick when using epóxi+microballoons.
Superfil sands easy, no biggie...
The only thing is I always end up mixing more (much more... HB~>) than I really need... LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~

Now I am only giving constructive criticism. Please don't take it wrong! Do your self a favor and you will thank me in the end. Put the spinner on and re-sand the nose to shape. This is the focal point of the plane and has to be shaped right!

Started yesterday, gonna finish today...

Gents

It's my great pleasure to inform you that the building phase of my Thundergazer can be considered over.
I put the ship all together and wento to the bakery on the corner to weight it.
What you see in the pics weighted aroun 54 oz.
I say around because I couldn't really lay the model on the scale, had to hold it up with the spinner on the scale, but good enough to have na idea of where i'm standing.
Considering that I've already applied the veil to the stab/elev and the wing has a few coats of dope already, maybe, just meybe I'll reach my goal of 62/63 oz tops, if lighter, better...
Let's see if I can keep myself from screwing up at the finishing this time...
My ships get a little "fat" somehow.... LL~

Thanks to everybody who has seen this thread.
Time to move to the finishing board. See you there..... ;D

Yeah Doc, the itchy trigger finger... LL~ LL~
The plan is to have it painted one color only and a few stickers for decoration.
But it must be shiny and smooth, and light enough.

I think this may come out lighter than mine did. My Thundergazer is in the 65oz range, but it's not hurting at that weight, that's for sure.

Here's a pic of inspiration to get going on the finish!  >:D

Did you miss me??
Well, after certain consideration, I decided to modify the shape of the engine cowl to allow a better cooling.
I've seen lots of pics of different ships, and thought mine to be not large enough.
I'll soon be done with my son's Nobler, and able to spend te rest of my vacation time working on finishing this baby.

I hope you have a lot bigger opening for the hot air to get out.   And isn't it great to get things done with the younger ones.
