Marcus!

You Rogue you.  ;D

Looking really good! Kudos!!

Hard to believe there's foam in there.

Hey! Please run this by me one more time. Exactly why are you building this "take apart" model?

Charles

Planning ahead is the key to success.
When I decided on the Thundergazer for contests, I knew i had much to learn, as a builder and as a pilot.
Been practicing hard, and it's been paying off, as I've gotten very good results in contests this year.
So going to contests means traveling and that means spending cash, that is cheaper when more people share the trip.
Putting F2b models and people in compact cars is hard, so everybody has a take-apart here.
But, It also makes it possible to finish this one, and then build a new fuselage, for the eflite 32 I have here, and then being able to fly eletric, without having to build a whole new Bird.
I can also experimente with different stab/elev, like foam, build up or foam/build up and learn from it.
To be very honest, I'm really impressed with Jose's moulded fuselages and might try it too, so it's like having a few chassis and engines and finding the right set up.
I've learned so much in this fórum, and am grateful for it, but the most importante thing I've learned is that we never really actually stop learning.
And there's Always so much to learn...

Marcus,

Shaping up!!

Looks like we do our hinges a bit differently?

I may be wrong, and correct me if I am. I see you knoch out the LE of the elevator and not that of the TE of the stab. Correct?

I set mine in 50 50. Half the hinge into the TE and half in the LE.

That's how I was shown. Been doing it that way for over 25 years.

Will you be glassing?

I have always done the notch in the leading edge of the elevator.   Seems there is less bind that way.

Tonight will work on the pushrod...
Gotta check how easy it will be to get this ship together (or difficult??!! LL~ LL~)
Can't wait to get my long shaft 7/64 ball driver by Lee... It'll make that a lot easier...

Just a little more...

After being advised of possible torsion on the horn, I've changed the ball link position...
And drilled another hole on the elev horn...

That should work well. I mounted my tail with a screw at a 45 degree angle on the bottom of the fuselage.

Me and my big mouth....LOL
So, the new holes didn't work, as the pushrod would hit the stab saddle and not allow the full travel...
Then, plan B... Back to the first holes, but I turned the pushrod around 180º, so the "L" end connects to the flap horn and the ball link to the elev horn.
That should do the trick.
Next time, will get myself some "double" horns...

Now, the nose. 1/32 glued, now a layer of CV and then 1/16 over it, as instructed by David F. on the building guidelines.
A doubt, though. What would be the best glue to make this balsa + CV laminate??

Thanks

Marcus,

You don't have to win contest or build super models to set an example of fine modeling. Ability and more importantly, attitude, you have both.

Your kind words, generousity and great since of humor, not to mention your efforts with descriptive builds as you give back, is outstanding.

A great example you set.   H^^

Absolutely a fine modeler and gentleman.

Now get something finished!

That is really nice covering job.   Now will find it will take less dope to fill.   Also you will have to watch how you sand.   As Sparky pointed on one of his finishes, two coats of clear and let set for a day.   Then sand and two more coats of clear and let set for a day.   When you start getting a little sheen to it you can maybe think of the primer coat.

What I like about this kind of covering is how stiff the wing gets after the silkspan bonds with the SLC...

Marcus,

Nice detailed photos, as usual.  H^^

However.

I'm at a loss here. No, not my mind. Well possibly.  n~
.
That CV is placed over what material? Then you are glueing sheeting over that?

Is the CV doped?  Sheeting glued with what adhesive?

Confused a bit, but your model is shaping up.

Charles

I'm trying to follow Dave's  advice, so first I used 1/32 for a first layer, then I put the CV with a little dope, so it would stay in place, then I molded the top parts using 1/16, and epoxied them in place.

Looks good Marcus. My first pipe tunnel I wrapped 1/64 plywood and glued it in with white glue. I would have done it on the next two planes but the design didnt allow me to.

Thanks Matt

I still have a lot of work on that area, but it's beginning to take shape.

Did the axis break or the glue failed? What kind of glue did you use?

It broke as you see in the pic, and as Always, I used J&B...
Anyway, went to my friend Martin's shop today and borrowed his scale...

Now I am only giving constructive criticism. Please don't take it wrong! Do your self a favor and you will thank me in the end. Put the spinner on and re-sand the nose to shape. This is the focal point of the plane and has to be shaped right!

Will do Robert... Got the 1 3/4 three-blade spinner last Friday.
So now I can shape it good!!!
Got some 13X3.75 BE CF props, and Marlus will help me get them ready for action.
Will post more pics later....

Adjusted the matching of the tailpiece and the bottom is basically ready.
Tomorrow I will shape the nose...
A few more clicks and it'll be ready for finishing... Can't wait! #^ #^
