Kit almost ready to start (PHOTO)
« on: September 25, 2006, 07:23:26 PM »
Today I spent most of the day cutting myself a kit for my new plane. I have most of it ready to start putting together. Tomorrow night I will start the assembly. I will make the beam tonight and start to put it together Wednesday or Thursday night.

With the Trailing edge and leading edge's made along with the Spar and fuse side and doublers, Motor mounts and nose ring cut the only thinking left to do is build the Stab and elevators. I had some business to attend to tonight so I did not get a chance to take any pictures. However the stage is set for the next building frenzy. The beamer will commence in the next few days. The nice thing about an I beam airplane is that within a week I will have a complete airframe.

Life is taking up too much of my modeling time! So I did not post tonight but I should be able to post picture tomorrow night. The lay up is quite easy! The will become clear as I post the photos. So loyal readers stay tuned for more progress .

Also keep in ming I have a S6B and a T-bolt almost ready to finish. Just waiting on a few pieces of wood.

Say Sparky,
Im envious of your finishes you get! Do you think you could get some shots of your prep and finishing steps for us? Maybe help me out on the Rapidographic pen sequence on say, one half of the wing panel lines(T-bolt)? Thanks!!

I know I have said that I would post some picture of the progress but it is just ordinary right now. Cutting parts and gluing the doublers. I have 1 more sub-assembly to make, Stab-elev. and I will lay up the wing and take some pictures. We should have a basic airframe by Monday night. I will give the detailed instructions on who I finish and ink line. With having to work progress is kinda slow right now. But as soon as something interesting is going on I will post it. Last night the spar was made and tonight the doublers were glued. I am thinking about cutting the stab next.

The ribs are glued to the I-Beam as well as the LE/TE after you shape the caps if you're building the traditional I-Beamer.

Yes, the caps I refer to are the pieces glued on top and bottom of the "spar".  A typical .35 size I-beam will have a 1/4" thick spar with the "caps" made of 1/8th" X 1/2".
