Jigs From Control Line Central
« on: December 28, 2009, 03:29:05 PM »
Today I received my fuselage and wing jigs along with the set of V-blocks.

I was totally impressed with the quality and workmanship of these jigs, even down to the packaging.

I have been involved in manufacturing almost all my working life and I owned a small manufacturing company for 21 years.  These jigs are as good as you could ever want and the price is absolutely on target.

A big thumbs up! CLP** CLP** CLP**

Would I be correct in asuming they are available again then? I know for a time he was not able to keep up with demand since they were so popular..

If you can find some of the pics of Walter Umland building the wings of his prototype kits you will see the CLC jig in action. I give it two thumbs up.  8)

I have been Jig building wings on 3/8 rods for years. Do you guys think the system you are using is better and why? Please don't mind the mess, Mama is moving things around upstairs and the overflow is comming down here.  LOL

I prefer the Morris style because:
Easier to build the jig itself.
References off of the LE & TE which is a greater spacing than the 2 rods,  any error in the rods is amplified out to the edges.
Does not require accurately cut holes in ribs, of course this is negated if you get your ribs laser cut.
Better support of the LE which allows stacking of heavy weights when gluing down the LE sheeting.

Due mostly to this thread, I went and dinged the plastic for the wing jig and LE V-blocks. I also popped for the Tom Morris (wooden) fuselage jig uprights. I got a confirmation of the order, and nothing about backorders, so I guess I'm good to go in a few daze (a Shultzie-ism).

Now, if I can just get one of those pinkslip things from work... y1 Steve

What I like the most about my wing jig is that I can do the top and bottom sheeting with the wing attached to the jig.  Almost impossible to get a wing warped. My friends are using it and loving it.

Hi Ty,

I designed it and made a few sets at a local machine shop and sold them for $240,00. Now I don't have any but if there was a big interest I could make another batch and possibly reduce the cost.

You have no idea how much thought and how many drawings it took to make this simple and obvious design :)

I am also designing a new one that uses the same basic idea but using a lot less aluminum.

This wing jig could also work with rectangular LE spars, just flip the bar to use the flat side.
