Hi Clint,

I have never tried that one.  The one I use (and everyone else I talk to) says Filler/Primer on it.

A different label and a light gray lid.

No, huh? Well there seems to be a little difference of opinion going on here because this is what Randy R posted in another thread.

Wrong primer for sure. The Truck and Van primer is not what you want. That's why I always tell folks to look for the Filler primer or the Sandable primer, these are the lacquer based products and they have been bullet proof for me.

Sorry for your trouble Clint, but don't give up on the Duplicolor, its great stuff!

The sandable primer works great for me, but again, I've only used it under Brodak dope. As near as I can tell, the only difference between this and the filler/primer is the solid content.

If Randy says that the can you have is what he uses under Brodak's Dope, then it will work.  I have not tried it under any dope or lacquer simply because he primer/filler always works under anything! :-D

But, if it works under Brodak's then it is a lacquer based product, and that is all you need.  And there was no real reason to post.......... LL~ LL~

The problem is, NONE of the Duplicolor primers say right on the can "this is a lacquer based product". I wish it was that easy.

Man, that sure looks like a can of the enamel based stuff. I can take a pic of the one can of spray primer I have. But I need to get new batteries for my camera. Sigh....

This may work:  Mix up a mixture of talc and dope and thinner (or Randy's filler if you have it). Windy trick: after mixing let settle them pour off.  The poured off stuff is the stuff you will spray.  Spray, sand lightly, use polar grey or silver, or a mix of both as primer.  It may be better than taking a chance with mystery primer.   The filler/primer might not be available in your area.

you can tell that the can is lacquer based if it contains toluene.

BTW I use the sandable primer as you have pictured for trim as well as base coats.....it is a cool grey.

Thing is Randy, in the 6 years I've been using Duplicolor, they've changed the can lables at least 3 times. You really have to look close. I picked up a can of the Truck and Van primer because the lable looked the same. I just swiped it up as I passed by the Duplicolor rack. Luckily I noticed it before I used it. I have had luck with it under urethane and epoxy, but its not very freindly to sanding.
