When I built my LA Heat I covered the wing before I assembled the plane. Of course I didn't cover the fuse or tail section before assembly so I wound up using lots of little pieces of tissue.
I have a new plane going now and I'm going to cover and dope all of the sub assemblies first this time.
It's good to know that someone else thought of this too Ty. It sure makes the job easier and the results are better.

When it comes to the glue joints, wing ,stab to fusalage do you leave this area uncovered ? At least for me doped silk span is not like $kote, you don't just cut it and peel it up for a clean glue joint.

For me, I really prefer having it covered before assembly, it sure saves some of the hanger rash on that soft contest balsa. Of course I have a rather confined space to work in also. As for glue joints, i normally hold the silkspan back from the anticipated joint by an 1/8 or so, the fillets will take care of that.
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

A little warning.. If you pre-cover a wing with polyspan, put several coats of clear on it before you start handling to install in the fuselage. If you don't you will end up with a fuzzy mess. Please don't ask, am sure you can imagine how I learned this lesson.
