Grade of Silkspan in Sig Kits

Does anybody know what grade of silkspan was supplied with the Sig Twister and Banshee kits?
I've run out and can not recall, and want to get some of the same stuff.  Is the current supply
Sig sells different from say, 20 years ago??   ???

For what its worth get polyspan. Silkpand is bad history. Polyspan looks like heavy grade silk span but more dualable.

Hi Stan,

From memory, I believe it was GM, *O*, or Medium (all the same). 

I agree with Dan, Poly span is the best stuff I have used, including silk.  It dopes on, but heat shrinks (LOW heat).  Poly Span's drawback is sharp corners.  Tom Morris is the first I know of the market it, and he recommends silkspan on difficult wing tips.  It's the only covering of that type which resists puncturing like it does.  Dropping a glow plug on it doesn't put a hole in it, and it's as light as regular silkspan.  Make sure you have it completely filled before sanding, and the side with the shine goes out.   Otherwise you will get a case of the fuzzies which is HARD to get rid of.

Yes, I have several rolls of polyspan from Tom, good stuff.  However, I like to use silkspan on solid/sheeted
balsa areas.  The stuff ( medium silkspan ) I recently bought does not seem to be the same product I've
used and had a bunch of around the shop for years.  So, I was confused, because it does not  seem to be
the same stuff??  The silkspan I was using was the same as supplied by Sig in some of their kits.
The new stuff does not seem as strong, and does not adhere as well.  Also, there is a more defined
difference from one side to the other ( seems to be more shiny and more 'slick' ).   I did notice the
same differences with the lighter Jap tissues a few years ago.  What I used and what is now sold seem
to be two seperate products??  I suppose the problem is product consistency, oh well  ::) .

Hi Stan,

I have found that the *new* silkspan is a different product from all the suppliers.  Not as easy to work with as the old stuff, regardless of the weight.
