Fuel Proofer

Areo Gloss made a fuel proofer.
Does anyone know what it is / was?
AND Can we get still get it under another brand name?

What are you needing to fuel proof?  Or is just a "nostalgic" thing like we all have?  ;D ;D

I never did find too many of the old fuel proofers (Aero Gloss, Testor's, etc.) to really be good at fuel proofing anything.  :o

I haven't seen a "comparable" product sold as such in a long long time.  I *think* the closest Hobby Shop to me still has some Aero Gloss Fuel Proofer.

I don't  *think* Brodak has ever made any Fuel Proofer.  ??? ???

I was hoping that someone will know what it is....
I got on to a web site that carries fuel proofer for nitrate....BUT Do you think I can find it again????? nope  >:(
Went back into history and I still can't find it. Bummer  :'(

I use aero gloss fuel proofer on bare wood before I start sanding for the clear and primer.
I soak the nose and tank area, along with the bell crank platform and landing gear blocks. SEEMS to work for me. Just brush it on right out of the bottle. Let dry for couple of hours and then sand and your ready for clear

That's interesting, Scott.  Would never have thought of using it like that.
Good luck on finding out what the "recipe" is, I'd like to know, too, since you got my curiosity up!

That's how I was taught back in the good old days around 1964. I do this with ALL my planes and DECALS. Light dusting first two coats for the decal. then one just a little heaver. Never worry again.

Aerogloss fuelproofer and Aerogloss dope are two different animals.  I am guessing  that the fuelproofer is somekind of urethane, although it says to thin it with Aerogloss thinner.  Advises to spray it on.  I brushed some out of the bottle as thin as I could put it on and it took several days to dry. Haven't used it since.

Why does the spellchecker want to change Aerogloss to urethane?  Does it know something?

AAHHHHH mine has always dryed in ten mins or less??..... ???
You brushed on FUEL PROOFER and It took that long?......hummmmm

In all honesty, the only fuel proofer I have used is Comet...back in the early fifties. I stopped using it when I started using Butyrate dopes such as Aerogloss, Testors, SIG, Lee (remember that), and now Brodak.

Didn't know that fuel proofer is still available. Will Aerogloss Fuel Proofer go over other brands of dope?

I have no idea what was in the Comet brand.

Don't really need fuel proofer for back row finishes.  :-\

I remember the Comet fuel proofer just coated the plane in a layer of wax that would peel in a heartbeat and I could not put it on smoothly.
 It also added weight at an astounding rate so all I used it on was the fuselage  and center section of the wing and tail.
This was allright though my free flights did not last but one flying season at that point,crashes, fly aways, etc.
Sort of a bitter sweet moment, standing there watching  weeks worth of work dissapear,but being proud that the thing would fly at all.

That could mean it's a urethane cause thats how they are as they get old. Had some old urethane that I had to bake in the oven to get to dry.
