I'm wanting to do a dyed tissue wing covering on the latest project, but have never done so. The color in question is red. What are the best products to use for the dying, and how are they used?

I have never done it but I try anything once. I would try Rit Dye in hot watter. Or you could try food coloring but I think the Rit would do better.

I've seen the Jap tissue and considered it, but I'm worried it might be a little too light strengthwise, and then be prone to cracking. Could a person use plasticiser too alleviate potential cracking? I think I'm gonna give the Rit dye a try.

One of the guys I fly with, Dave Johnson, has a Viking that looks to have a dyed silkspan finish. It isn't. What he does is to tint clear dope using Higgin's Fadeproof pigment inks. They have pretty good UV resistance and don't fade much in the sun. The effect is perfect... I was fooled when I first saw it.
