Bellcrank mounting / Glue ?
« on: June 19, 2006, 07:12:00 PM »
Gentlemen ...

I'm in the midst of assembling a Brodak Oriental (full fuse/kit) and was wondering if it's ok to use medium/gap filling cyano to mount the bellcrank ?
I used to use epoxy , but I want to hurry this part of the project , just a bit :)
The mounting assembly looks a little weak ...
Is it strong enough with just the verticle 1/4 inch balsa stick glued to the upper and lower 1/4 inch wing spar ?
I'm wondering if there is a better way of beefing up the mount ?

Thanks  #^

Hi Rob,

I am not familiar with the assembly procedure for the Brodak bellcrank however my
thoughts are to stay with the epoxy.  The few planes I have constructed all have the bellcrank platform, blocks or re-enforcements epoxied and most of the builders I know do the same thing. I am guessing that the primary reason for this method is it is tried and true and we know that it will greatly assist in the strength of the area when it comes to the old pull test  f~  I don't know where you reside, but in my neck of the woods you can purchase small quantities of 15 minute epoxy and for me, thats pretty quick.  Most of the guys I know use the 5 or 15 minute epoxy and with an acid brush [the throw away jobs]
get with it and get it on before it sets up on them.  Oh some thin it appx 10% [the 15 minute not the 5 minute] and this helps it flow out.

Hope this helps

You really don't want to hurry this part of the construction. I would
use 30min epoxy and make sure the fits are tight, no gaps. If this fails
bye bye airplane.
