No, no, it's a good question...you can, but I think you need to scuff it up a little first, seems like I've read here to use steel wool; I use whatever finest grit sandpaper I happen to have handy.

Most dope won't adhere to MonoKote (or other plastic, heat shrink coverings).

Top Flite's " Luster Kote" which is available only in spray cans is the only paint I've found which will stick to the film.

Perhaps someone else knows of other paint that will work?  I've tried Sig and Brodak dope with poor results.

Rustoleum does fine, over scuffed plastic film...I should have specified the paint--I've never tried dope.  Sorry.

Your question is an ignorant question, not a stupid question.  Ignorance can be cured by asking ignorant questions.  So ignorant questions are usually a mark of high intelligence. Stupidity cannot be cured, it can only be managed.  If a stupid person can figure out how to ask ignorant questions, and then will put adequate effort into understanding the answers, they can cruse through life in good style.  And people will end up thinking they are pretty smart.  ;)

A few years back Kaz Minato and Matsaru Hiki (sp?) brought two airplanes to the Brodak Flyin. Both were covered with iron on plastic film sprayed with some type of clear coat. If you were to look at and feel the airplane you would have said it was paint. until they told us it was iron on film with a clear coat I would have never guessed. Anyway they got paint to stick w/o any issues, but I am not sure what their procedure was.

I remember, oh 35 years ago or so, that clear Monocoat was sold for the purpose of using a painted finish.  One of my buddies used it, sprayed a three color camo paint scheme on it with Aerogloss, and it lived for a long, long time........and he didn't prep the surface at all.   But I never had any luck trying to use paint on colored Monocoat........

I have used the enamel Rust-Oleum over white Monocoate. Rough up the Monocote first with steel wool. Takes a little while for the enamel paint to dry, but it works pretty good. Don't use the black Rust-Oleum. It is not fuel proof.
