Just for a test run...
Ran across some old pencil and ink presketch drawings from my Boeing skeleton-sketch box...just to see how they scan or repo.
These first two are presketches for my "Metal Photo" recognition plaques of retiring model mucks n' makers.
The last ones are from finished plaques n' pieces...

Not to vurry...This post will disappear in a short while..to save memory space for the forum

Gary Letsinger...gave me that idea a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago..when we were trying to come up with stuff for the old low resolution fuzzy Zeroxed Stunt News snail mail DAZE DAYS ....(humm? Gads, Les, this old quickee sketch was finished in about 30 seconds because Gary had to make the mail service pick up that was due for pick up at any moment....and my loon-toon really shows....that "Ya shouldn't eva' try to RUSH CREATIVITY?

If you are lurking....here is an old photo of you that I thought would alway make a FUNNY cartoon. (except I thought I would catch "f--in' flack from the "Thong handle" ethics folks)
that might not like my take on just how little it matters whether we use a handle "THONG"----------especially if we FORGET TO ATTACH THE LINE CLIPS ONTO THE MODEL!

hat cartoonienails it on the head. If you don't beleive me, just stand around the circle at the NATS sometime. Now only during practice sessions, but during official flights also. I think a great coach tells it like it is.

Those old loonie toons really illustrated just what can happen to a brain like ol' Shultzie that has been locked away deep in the bowels of the Boeing Wind Tunnel Phantom Works caverns 2 stories below the ground level. Although we had ventilation fans...the toxic smell of decades of strange chemicals were leaching through the cracks and crannies into the air conditioning system.
Many of those cartoons were scribbled during breaks and tunnel model changes...Just seeing these old sketches that I had long forgotten....AMAZINGLY BRINGS BACK SO MANY MEMORIES...(BOTH GOOD AS WELL AS THE SCAREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE' ONES!

attached toon is another icon lead wind tunnel model maker who taught so many of us before he retired.
Here is one of his favorite airplanes that he requested from me before he left.
The Boeing F4B-4
First is my "Loonie Toon" and the last picture (a REAL PIECE OF ART)from one of the finest Boeing Artist John Amendola... an amazingly gifted soul that could CREATE ON DEMAND faster than any artist that I have ever known. He created this beautiful picture in less than one 8 hour shift.
I heard that he is still alive and kickin' and living in Bellevue Wa.
He is only 80 years young...and still beholdin his paint brushes.

Old n' Sleepy...

Gads...its 8:34 here in the NW....27 degrees...and 13,500 families still have no power from this long cold snap.
We hit a record 16 degrees at Sea Tac last night in Seattle and some neck of the woods woods got down as low as 9!!!!

Carol and I were without power for 2 days.....and last night we finally got a room at a local Gig Harbor motel, but our power came back on about 5:30 p.m.
We bailed out of the motel...came home and took about 4 hours to get everything back to normal again.
We both felt and smelled like our local dead Salmon chumbait....before we both showered together..too much info huh?

Thanksgiving turkey has been virtually "die-jested' and thoughts of Christmas and sugarplums are dancing around in my head...(humm, maybe caused by a couple too many bottles of "Flat Tire Ale yesterday")
Not only suga' plumbs were dancing around in my head last night...but also today I kept thinking about the upcoming Annual PreChristmas Wind Tunnel lunch party and just how much our old departed lead man and master modeler Billy LaChappel who also would "mastermind" this annual affair that would start days before the event.
Bill would dig out batches of old archive photos and carefully put these up on display boards showing for everyone who was invited back to the tunnel for that old day before Christmas open house that now has all but become a thing of the past.

I will never forget one of Bills most important tools that was always close at hand in his amazingly appointed masters craftsman tool box that was the ENVY of his peers.

He had this old can of air freshener that he had removed the label and replaced it with another label from an old bug & Spider pesticide can.

Bill...(who was always called upon to "save the day" and would take charge in correcting many botched procedures that seemed impossible to fix)....
even some that THAT WOULD EVEN MAKE A BRAIN SURGEON BREAK OUT IN A SWEAT----BILL HATED WITH A PASSION to be interupted my meaningless questions.
Working on Bill's team of model makers during tunnel runs you could always count on Bill to give us his "scratchin his ear signal" to jump back out of the way, while he would reach in his tool box for that TRUSTY FAKE PESTICIDE SPRAY CAN and aim it directly at his intended target interrupter's face.
He was truly an amazing "people person" and seemed to always know just how far he could push the envelope and always seems to know how to smooth those ruffled feathers during times of crisis.
Any hoo...enough hanger rash talk trash....Here is his old retirement drawing....showing his MODEL TEAM IN ACTION.

NEVA NUFF P-26's
Here is a scan of another one of my loonie-toon drawings for genius retired Boeing model maker lead "Bill Chriswell" at his retirement...who loved those old Boeing P-26 vintage airplanes.

Not only was his craftsmanship pure perfection...but also the way he could be counted on to organize a short budgeted model building project.
Unfortunately for the rest of us "nerd-near de wells" Bill would continue to spoil aero engineering reps' into the belief that it was often possible with the right planning...

Don,
We went over to the "Ranch" for Thanksgiving. The water line to the house was frozen, as it had been -11 for several days. Fortunately, it warmed up to 0 by the time we got there. 20 degrees sure felt warm by the time it rolled around. By Friday we had the blockage cleared, and we could function normally.

I have consider this. I was thinking of a balsa core for the ski, with a glass cloth outer layer, and a fitting to attach to the LG. Shouldn't weigh too much more than a wheel.

I intend on trying that, possibly next winter!

LL~Had a hard time finding a head as hard or as large as mine. Speaking of dealing with a large head...(If I had as many amazingly artistic skills and talent for designing, building and finisihing beautiful CLPA models that you have shown over the years....My head was be even bigga than HUMPTY-DUMPTY'S.

Like too many things in this age of generic computer generated everything, we don't see enough artwork done the "right" way anymore.

Doodlin n' Loonie toonin' into day's new puter'graphical world has become truly another artform that simply is so far and away beyond my minds eyeball.

My wife (A hopelessly dedicated and addicted ("TWI-HARD!")just brought home yesterday, The "Eclipse" movie CD that was just released on CD.
On the CD was a section on the "making of the movie" and after viewing the challenges facing those computer graphic artists----------------WOW! TALK ABOUT A BRAND NEW WORLD OF THE GRAPHIC ARTIST that I can not begin to get my demented paint fummmmmed brain to understand?

I can't begin to IMAGINE just what kind of NIGHTMARES that boogle the minds of these new wave of computer generated artists?

TALK ABOUT RE-CREATING ON DEMAND!! OUCH!!!

Hurts my head-body-n' hands even to think about it.

Schultzie, I am so glad that Robert has stated that this thread will not get deleted. There are very few people with your talent. Read the book about Walt Disney and his rules for drawing to his artists. Now the people do it on computor so that it seems so real. Even on the news media you can't beleive what you see at times. Nothing like enhancing the number of people at a protest or rally. Have you done any more drawings since retirement?

At first after retiring back in May 2004....
I had managed to complete a few requests from close Boeing friends and also other retiring aviation industry folks that I met along the way such as The Hilton Chain, Aviation Partners, REI, The McCaw brothers (starting with Bruce McCaw), Starbucks, The Seattle Symphony and friends of our Shultz and Smith Clan.

Most of these last ones were appreciation gifts to those folks who I had previously made drawings and painting for during my years at Boeing.
These last ones after retirement..were my typical 2 to 3 day loonie toons and not serious art projects that I had been involved in at the Boeing Phantom Works.

However my constant nagging projects to update our home here in the woods of Gig Harbor...
Shortly after that...
I had some botched "Car-Pool Tunnel" surgery on my right drawing hand. After two corrective operations on that same right lame paw that had been nagging me .
I virtually have little feelin' or little control over the feel and touch of detail drawing and even worse and more fustrating is that the nerves to my fingers have not re-generated causing the muscles of my right fingers to become weaker with each year. I still can hold a fist for a short time...until my hand starts to cramp up.
I find myself using my left hand more and more often...but the fine touch is all but a memory.

All the QUACKED SAW BONE HEADED SURGERIES...GAVE ME THE SAME OLD STORY PROCLAIM PERHAPS THE BARE FACTS N' TRUTH TO ME!
I HAD WAITED TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LONG before taking care of myself like I should have.
HIND END SIGHT IS OFTEN SO EZ!!! NEVA UP..NEVER IN!~
