Various Cox models
« on: January 25, 2014, 09:29:57 AM »
I am sure this question has been asked before, but I would like to get a history, and description of the various Cox .049 models, along with the relative power & usability of each model. Any publications? Regards, Ed

Mark Boesen at Coxengineforum.com, clstunt.com, and RCGroups.com has an extensive knowledge and catalog of Cox engines and models. Lots of old publications and advertisements too. He has his own site that has volumes of info if you can navigate it:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/049Collectors I suggest contacting him.

You also might look up Warren Leadbetter (warrenlead) and JM Calata (jmcalata) at the two forums I mentioned. They're more engine guys. Mark is models and engines.

Look up Cox on Wickipedia. Warren has a section on Cox engines there.

Right, and he keeps it updated as he learns new information. And there's Martin Hepperle's site too He loves Cox engines:

Thanks for the reply & info. The last time I flew, it was with the big planes. I had bought several 1/2A engines years ago, & thought I would go back to my roots from a very long time ago. The many types & models of the Cox engines is somewhat confusing. Looking to try & get my grandsons interested in building & flying.  Regards, Ed

Mark Boeson's 1/2A group is second to none. Many people on this forum are members, including myself. It might take you three or four days just to go through his entire photo section! Volumes of other information there also. There is currently a tach race getting ready to be held where entrants mail their engine to one person, and he bench runs them all on the same day, and highest rpm wins! Kind of neat to follow along also. entrants from all over the globe. Highly recommended.

That Tach race is a great way to break up the Winter monotony. This will be my third year entering. The Tach Race central is now at Coxengineforum.com where Mark is a member. It's tough going up against guys like Paul Gibeault. There are several classes, all Cox Reedies. The winners sometimes run in the 20-22K RPM range. We use Sig Champion 25 and a Cox gray 5x3 prop.

We also have a Traveling Prop(Zinger 5x3) and a Traveling Engine(a Tee Dee .049) making a circuit of the world.
