Several years ago I wanted to build a 1/2A Nobler.  Took the plans from Brodak Original Nobler kit and had them reduced to 70%.  The spinner at .7 was just a shade under 1.25".  I could not locate a 1.25 spinner that I was happy with so thats as far as the project got.   Now there are 1" aluminum spinners available from Brodak and also Lee Machine Shop.  Anybody ever use either of those ?   I am going to use the 1" even thought it will be slightly under scale..  

At 70% the span is 35.25" and the area is 265".  I know this is pushing the limit of my Norvell .061, but I also have a Norvell .074 for plan B.  I will build nose with interchangable mount system for either engine.   What is a good target weight for this set-up, I really want it to work with the .061 and not have to go to the .074 ?

There are 1 1/8 plastic spinners with metal backplate available, maybe from Hobby People.  These were a Cox design which Cox did not produce.   Maybe someone else can tell you more.   I'd say you could go up to 12 oz and still be OK.  Lighter is always better with small airplanes. 

Went to the Hobby People site, did not see any 1 1/8" spinners.

Norvell .061 has a 3mm prop screw, I think Cox uses a 5-40, right ??

Yes.  Just a tad bigger at 3.2mm.  You can either squint and pretend that 8mil off center isn't a problem, you can wrap the screw with some shim stock, or, well, something.

For me, 8 mill off center at 20K+ is a problem.

So wrap the screw with the right amount of brass shim stock to bring it up to diameter.

Not so sure that *your* 1/2A Nobler would be technically legal, actually it wouldn't be..  If George drew 1/2A plans, then *those* would be.  All depends on how anal the CD/ED (and other competitors) are.

From what I understand the Stork is a 1/2 A Nobler.  I seen a kit of one by Golden State Models just last weekend in Lansing at the cancelled Tour De Michigan.  It was a profile with working flaps.  Sure was glad i left the wallet home or it might of follwed me.
