Norvel Parts Swap
« on: February 16, 2008, 06:12:48 AM »
Has anyone who has both the Norvel .049/.061 engines and the AP Wasp engines (.061) checked to see
if any of the parts interchange?  It would be nice to know if Norvels can be outfitted with
the Wasp parts ( such as the piston and cylinder, crankshaft, etc. ).  The two different makes
of engine appear to be almost identical.
Thanks, Stan Bidowski  H^^

The Wasp indeed seems to be an unauthorized clone (rip off?) of the Norvel. I am not sure of other parts but remember reading that the carbs will not swap.
I am sure others will be able to answer more.

The prop shaft on the AP is male and uses a cone "nut".  The Norvel uses a screw for the prop.  I know the heads are interchangeable, but the glow plugs are a little different (AP is a little narrower).  Venturi is totally different as are the needles.

However, the AP will fit in the Norvel tank if you ever wanna do a tank mount.

All that being said, I've had better luck with the AP's than the Norvels.  I had 2 .049 Norvels and they never were consistent, liked to run hot for some reason on me and yes, I followed the break in procedure.  AP's ran great right out of the box after I blew out the venturi and cylinder with a little air.

I wonder if AP cloned the NORVEL before NORVEL switched to the "Freedom Plug"?
