« on: August 29, 2009, 06:33:42 AM »
Black Hawk models will start shipping a new model kit...Sky Master II. Please forgive any errors I am writing this at 4 AM. The Sky Master was designed by Don McGovern for Scientific Models, it is a large Rubber powered model airplane. I am sure that some of you remember it... You Fly it a Mile.
Wing span 36", best flown outdoors.  DK^

Larry, this is sweet news indeed.
The Scientific Sky Master has been one of the models I always wish I had but never did.

There has been some interest not long ago on RCgroups either in the old timers forum or Free flight forum. Don't remember which.

Good choice friend. I hope it becomes one of your top sellers.

Wow!  I do remember the ads that stated that it will 'fly a mile'.  Always wanted one, and now maybe my wish will come true!

"turning dreams into reality!"
I like that. Our Junior Ace line uses "We Pack A Smile Into Every Kit" because everytime I see a kid open one of our kits they break into a big smile.
"putting the fun back into model airplanes" is our current Black Hawk slogan.

Larry that one really brought back memories!  When I was a teen we moved to Rosewell N.M. I was new in town, and of course quickly found the local hobby shop and started hanging out and making a general nuisance of my self. I made friends with another guy my age - Luis Day, and he was building that Scientific kit. We often sat in his garage and hung out, while the Ambroid dried we always debated whether it would really " Fly a Mile". He was convinced it would, I was the naysayer- the winds in Rosewell were not the best thing for flying FF.

I never did get to see it fly, we moved after a year and he had not finished it yet, a short while later my sister who stayed to finish high school informed me that he had come down with Lukemia, and died shortly thereafter.  Put me on the list - I will buy one, and maybe even get to see if Luis was right - I'd love to see it fly a mile, and I'm sure Luis would see it and smile!

Remember that little .020-powered version of the AMA Cub, designed by Frank Ehling?

I built on of those and Flew it a Mile.   At the age of about 19 I went out with some little neighbor kits to test it.  Lost it on the first flight.  We were all impressed that it flew so well.  After giving up the search, we gave up and went home, but spotted the model by the side of the freeway, a long way from the launch point.

$30.00 WHA! Why so much???????
To start with, the kit is Laser cut, then there is full size plans and two sheets of tissue, all of this adds up quick. Top quality wood, 7 page instruction book, and 12 feet of contest rubber. I think that we are asking a fair price and since we only sell through dealers they get their cut too.  H^^

The price.

This has to be looked at from more than one perspective for some.
30 is a lot in my book. However Larry is not milking anyone on this.

Try, just try to buy a complete original kit from most any place you can think of and get it for less than $30 dollars.
Add to this that the wood may be warped and most likely be very heavy. The die cutting was never great and can sometimes be awful.

As soon as I am able to afford one of these I will do so. Just cannot justify even this moderate expense for now.
i do so look forward to one of these!

Robert

I'm really tempted by this one..
i think you got me when you mentioned the 12' of contest rubber. :o ;D  I wonder how many winds that is.

Does this model have a removable wing?

It's either this or an Ebeneezer model for my next free flight. I want to get beyond the Peanuts and No-Cals.

Thanks,
John
