Joey, some years back[ could be 20 or more ] a club from the DC area came up with a 1/2A combat ship, this plane was made from one 36" sheet of balsa and used a cox.049.  I had two of them and they were great, can anyone remember this 1/2A ship? I would like too get the planes for it.

Welcome Joey
Now you need to get busy building some 1/2 A stunters so you can do more than just go round and round fast.  LOL

Yeah!

Try a Brodak 1/2A Pathfinder w/Norvel .061 or equiv.
Try one of Ray's offerings from Minnesota Modeler.
You wont be disappointed with either choice.

Bob,
We make 3 combat wings that use 48" of 1/8 X 3" for each. Check out WWW.BLACKHAWKMODELS.COM look under PS models on the catalog.

These are the combat wings that I suggested, from Black Hawk Models.

Check out the pair of foam wing models "Wedgie" and "El Bat" in the January 2002 Flying Models issue.  Fast, inexpensive construction.  You could also do the designs in cardboard or coroplast.

Hi Larry.  I was wondering if those combat planes can do inside and outside loops when powered by the OK Cub and built according to plan?  And what length lines do you use with them?

Thanks.

David,
As you know I no longer fly. I did fly several of these several years ago. A youngster brought me his to check out for him, it was a little tail heavy. Upon release I did the tightest loop you ever saw....I swear it spun in one spot. I then rewrote the stunt manual, it flew all over the place and was quite unbelievable in its performance. Well that was a good Cox engine...but to answer your question: I have never seen anything but Cox engines on them but I am sure that properly balanced it will do all that you want it to do.

You need to do some modifications to a Cub, and then use high nitro to get close to the power of a C*x.  These models were designed for at least Black Widow power, so I wouldn't use anything less.   The Wedgie works great with a Big Mig .049, AP Wasp .061 or similar power.  I used an RR-1 for a while, but mostly the Black Widow or one of my Venom clones on El Bat.

OK.  Thanks.  I was wondering about the OK Cub because that was shown in the photo.  I'll use some Black Widows if I can find them.

I may have misunderstood your question.  My answer above applied only to the Wedgie and El Bat models I published in Flying Models.

Larry Rice can answer for the Cub power on the models he makes.
