Line length?
« on: August 04, 2007, 04:26:05 PM »
What would be an average line length for 1/2A stunt flying?
Say for a Brodak Pathfinder and Brodak .061.

Jerry,

That plane will easily handle 40-50 foot .008 braided wire lines.

Definitely start at 50'.  It should handle it if you are using the correct prop (APC 5.7x3 is a good choice).  You can always cut the length down.  I am flying a Baby Clown with a Medallion .049 on 42.5', and my Sky Sport with a Brodak .049 on 45'.  Both are quite fast!  The Baby PF is a much larger plane than either of mine, and the AP Wasp has a LOT more power.
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

I'm using 48' for my LittleAxe with Norvel .061 and 6x2 prop, or 5x3 3-blade.

Generally use 42' for most everything else, combat and sport planes; 35' for my weaker .049s (Cox, Brodak I, etc.).

15' for my .020 1/4As, because that's all the room I have in my backyard!  I think they would handle up to the old 27' 1/2A standard length of yore.

Per stock engineering answer:  "It depends."
