handle and spectre question
« on: September 01, 2013, 03:44:55 PM »
Can you use spectre lines that run through the handle?  Do you worry a bout chafing in the handle if you do?

I now use spectre as 2 separate lines now with .018 wire running through the handle, and would like to get rid of 1/2 the failure points

Would like to try it just like we did back in the old days with Dacron line.

How do you terminate the lines at the handle/

Yes you can make a continuous loop with spectra (GSUMP) lines, just like dacron on 1/2a.  Since the adjustment is in theory infrequent and under no load there is little to no wear on the plastic or line that will occur.

The 5-turn uni-knot, doubled, is the specified knot.  The knot is fairly easy to learn to tie, unlike tying 2 lines exactly the same length.  There is a you-tube on it, or you can look at to Power Pro website (and probably many other fishing websites)
http://www.powerpro.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/power_pro_v2/info/using_powerpro/knots/uni_knot.html

My 1/2a setup uses Power Pro through the handle.  My larger plane uses 2 separate Power Pro lines on a Sullivan handle.  After 2 tries the lines are only an inch apart in length, so I suffer with it for now.
