Definitely a different 1/2a plane.

Half a is really one of my favorite categories. Must go back to when I was a kid and was actually able to fly it on my own with no help from Dad!

I noticed that too. If you look at the second pic you can see that it is open. My guess is for a plastic bag or baloon tank. Larry?

What are the projections on the fuse sides for? They look nice but I have no clue what they are for.
They are a little too forward for a battery pocket in an electric conversion. 

I would have to agree with Mr. Hahn on the symmetry. 
I personally think that many of the modern designs are lacking somewhat in character simply from our lack of giving them a little window dressing. Mr. Moffatt asks what they are for as though they had to have a functional purpose to be there. This is why we are in the design state we are in. For the sake of clean lines, weight savings and simplicity, if it doesn't 'do' something it doesn't belong. While this is indeed worthy of consideration, we tend to make up the difference in panel lines and other graphics.

I am all for adding scoops, cheek cowls, louvers, and other sorts of blisters or what not just to give the plane some character.  I have been toying with the idea of mimicking some of the design traights that made some of our cars so good looking. Do you remember the time when you could tell exactly what make model and even the year from two blocks away? Can't do that anymore folks.

Flight reports!

Flew a couple of flights at the Valley Circle Burners fun fly a couple of weeks ago (Holiday doings and the flu have prevented more testing).

The balance and sensitivity seem to be on the money.  VERY smooth in level flight, but plenty of kick for squares.

I have a warp in the left wing that needs to be removed, and need some added tipweight.

As far as basic design, I think I blew it on the nosegear as it tends to bounce and bounce some more unless you hit it perfectly.  The last model had the nosegear straight down and was a dream to land; almost couldn't go wrong.  This one has the nosegear raked back.  An easy fix with a pair of pliers but I have to prove it out before releasing the MK 2 design to RSM.  Hope to get that all worked out this weekend.

Interior is thoroughly epoxy coated.  No problems with the MK 1 plane that is 4 years old.
