Engine for 1/2A Brodak Pathfinder
« on: January 09, 2015, 04:43:30 PM »
Howdy,

Going to build a larger Vector 40 soon but the 1/2 A category looks fun as well.
Especially that Brodak Pathfinder. Anyone recommend a good engine for that kit?
I will also use a dope finish on it which will make the plane a bit heavier.

Thanks

Thanks Larry. Not familiar with that engine and being Canadian I'm limited to the
access I have to choose from. I buy a lot from Great Hobbies and they have nothing listed in that
range. If you know of a trusted supplier please post that for me  #^

Lastly the 1/2A category. Is there a standard size for models that fit in that?? ie up to a .61
or a certain wingspan?? What would a 15 - 19 size model be classed as?

The Big Mig is available from nvengines.com . The price is listed at $75.99

Good flying, stuntable, 1/2 A planes can be as small as 150 sq.in. or as large as 250 sq.in.

.15 tao .19 size planes generall gao from 275 sq.in. to 350 sq.in.

The Norvel .061 engines have provided years of great service to KidVenture in the original SkyBaby models and then in the Tuff Baby models we have been using. If you want to be strict about it though, it is larger than 1/2A. Norvel did also make an.049 size engine. It depends of the organizing body that is putting on the contest and the rules that apply. From my experience, I think a Norvel .061 would fly a SIG Akromaster profile if it lightened up just a bit more, like a 1/4" thick fuselage and careful wood selection and finish. Shrink the Jecto Shark 15 down just a bit and it would be a nice model also.
  Type at you later,
