My understanding is that in its original form the killer bee was one of the more powerful cox reedies.  I read somewhere that the venturi and needle valve were part of the formula so it has to have the correct back plate in order to give its designed performance.  Like other bees, the particulars changed over the years so the later ones may not give the same performance as the original.  Most reed valve cox engines are pretty similar externally.  In some instances you have to really know the internal particularities to identify a given engine.

It was produced in limited numbers, and at the time everyone was going ga ga for the new 1/2A Norvel, CZs etc. My guess is that it didn't make the margin needed to support continued production.

    I found mine to run as good as my tee dee .051. I used Sig 25% fuel.Both engines were using APC 5x3's.They were mounted in a pair of combat kittens.I will say that the tee dee was easier to needle to get an on setting though.                                    Ken

The Killer Bee was made at the request of the Free Flight community to meet the needs of Nostalgia FF flyers.  It had a special, high strength, better balanced crankshaft, a washer behind the drive plate to allow use of electric starters, big bore venturi and a special cylinder.  We were not allowed by NFFS to use the high compression head, because it would then outrun and outlast the Holland Hornet.

The final ones C*X made were just the product engine with a colored backplate.   HB~>

The "real" ones had the yellow plastic needle valve extension and anodized crankcase as shown in the photo in an earlier posting.  Accept no substitutes or you are being ripped off.
