I want to get a Queen Bee and I have a 1/2A Snapper to build.

This probably doesn't belong here, but no one will see it in the Classifieds!!!!  **)

Anyone want to part with a running Babe Bee and a Pee Wee .020??  (I've NEVER had an .020!)  ???  ???

Cosmetics are a "non-issue".  y1

Thanks,

Bill, I set up the Snapper firewall for a long-tank Cox (Black Widow, Golden Bee, etc.)--to use a Babe Bee you will have to use a 1/4" thick block under the engine, or else trim off the fuselage sides and top 1/4", or else move the firewall forward 1/4".

I was just downstairs measuring, and actually there's about 1/8" clearance behind the prop as is; so you might get by with a 1/8" spacer and a little sandpaper.

Not a major problem; just FYI.

Hi Ray,

Thanks for that information!  I have a few of the big tank Cox engines, so I will go with one!  I have only flown one .049 in the past 40 years!  **)

I am REALLY looking more forward to this one each day.  ;D

Bill;
    I'll check my stash I might have an extra 0.02. I have the one I'm going to use, but I might still have a some others in storage in a box way back under the bench. I had a coworker a few years ago give me a shoe box with several tiny engines in it. They may be 0.02 or they my even be 0.01 I will have to look.

Hey Frank the Pinto brings back alot of memories. I learned the whole pattern on a Pinto. It was also the first plane I built from plans. Wow it was also the only plane that flew right off the board, I still have the TD I used in it. And the tail I have a picture but it's in very bad shape.
I built it in 1976.

I've got 3 plans and a RSM kit of it. I was going to use a norvel in my next one. I have 4 norvels. They all seem to run great. As good or better than the TD.

I don't know. An interesting story though my son designed and built a P38 profile for 1/2 A's like Dick Sarpolis. He grab 2  novel motors to put on it. It flew great and sounded neat. It wasn't till it crashed did we know it had one .049 and one .061. couldn't tell the difference.

Frank;
    You are in luck! I have a TD 0.049 you could have it is gummed up, and doesn't have the prop screw. I'll let you have it if you want. I had it in a RC plane back in 88-89, and it was at the bottom of an old box.
Bill,
    I have a spare 0.020, but two of the mounting lugs are broken, the needle valve is bent and no glow plug. I'll also let you have that one if you want.
    I was unable to find the little 0.010 yet.

Hey Bill,

I have a short tank for a Babe Bee, just no engine...it will fit, of course, on any of the reed-valve .049s, including those cheap "sure-start"s.  You could build your own Babe Bee!

If you could use it, let me know.  Free for nothin', it's just gathering dust here and I'll never use it.

One comment about not being able to tell the 061 Norvel from the 049. I have flown both, and a good 061 can turn a black 5x4 Tornado Magnum >22Krpm, but the 049 needs the 5x3 to get that fast. Could be your son (luckily) had the 061 on the inboard wing.

Part of the reason your son could run mixed sized engines on his P-38 is the design "Kelly" Johnson came up with in the first place.

Two tests of his design:  Lackheed test pilot Tony LeVier once took a P-38 off on one engine by taxing in ever greater circles until he had rudder control to hold it straight.  The second test was at the 1983 FAI Scale team trials when I lost the left engine on the 5th lap but was able to complete the 10 laps to qualify the flight.

My P-38 was in Model Aviation, March 1986 and is available as Plans # 505.  It is bigger that what we talk about here, 2 each ST 35's, 65 inch wing span and 12 lbs.
