Consolidated Typhoon, Nats Scale winner
« on: February 27, 2011, 12:08:17 AM »
Here is my son Jeremiah's Consolidated Typhoon. He built it in 1990 when he was 9 years old. It completed 5 laps airborne which was good enough for an attempt and so Chief Judge Mike Stott proclaimed that the flight counted. Hence the Junior Scale National Champion was his. ( I bought a trophy that said that because I couldn't believe that one was not awarded.) It was a hot day in Lawrenceville and the little four blader bogged down the Babe Bee too much. He refinished it and I installed a twin port cylinder from a Tee Dee and ran a 5x3 Tornado prop, it went about 65 mph on 42 footers. He won best finish at Whittier in '91 and won a model building stand that I still use, presenter was the late Virgil Wilbur.

That's awesome, Chris!

I hope Jeremiah continues with C/L.  If not now, he probably will later on! ;D
I know how much I enjoy building and flying with Aaron, and he's 35 (!!) now!

That is great Chris.  Maybe one of these days when he gets his life ready for model planes he will be back.  I too back in the day had a disagreement with the AMA and the NATS as far as Juniors and Seniors.  I always thought to encourage Junior participation that each and everyone should have gotten an award of some kind.  Even if it was a little plaque that stated they participated in the NATS.  My son was very disappointed when he placed in several events and no trophy.    H^^
