1/2A Arrow
« on: February 17, 2014, 04:04:44 PM »
Several years ago there were a couple guys building the 1/2A Arrow.  Minnesota Modeler and Frank, maybe??  (search didn't produce anything)

Where these finished and how did they fly?  What engines?  Pictures if possible.

I have a Fierce Arrow 400 and while I am getting back to flying, I am kinda wanting a few "small" planes in the .049-.061 size that will be decent flyers.

Thanks!

Hi Bill,
another subject - I did answer your e-mail.

I was one of the guys building the 1/2A Arrow. Still on the shelf, partially complete.
If you want a really great flying 1/A, check the Bob Baron Barecat. I use a Norvel .061 on mine, 6x2 APC and 48' .008 lines w/ Renger handle.  It will outfly the 1/2A Pathfinder.  I guess it is time to dust it off and have some fun!  to see a pic of mine, go to the photo gallery section here, district 5, second line of pics, from the bottom on the left side. plans avail from AMA.
Take care

The Bob Baron Barecat sounds an interesting build, Presumably plans are available?

Andrew.

Yup, I was one.   Pix included.  Engine = Norvel .061, APC 6x2 prop.  It flew very well after I limited the elevator travel so it didn't stagger completely out of the sky.  Takes a fairly long takeoff run, maybe I have the gear set too level.

Fancied it up quite a bit, tip-weight box, adjustable leadouts, just like the big guys...

I designed a really sexy cowl/air-exhaust system I thought, then had to cut it off when the engine kept overheating.  Oh well.

And yes, that's a Lego Frankenstein piloting...

I love the tip weight box idea. Water bottle cap and neck. Devilishly clever!  H^^

Why thank you, Larry...it works really well too. A little piece of foam rubber  CAed to the inside keeps things snug.  Nickels fit perfectly; properly-sized washers will if you're a purist.  But they cost more than a nickel.

That is so true about washers costing more than a nickel.   But, would I get in trouble drilling holes in nickels?

Why would you need to drill a hole?  Nickels fit nicely into the bottle neck.

Oh...use the nickel for a cheap washer...never mind.
