1/2a apc props
« on: October 21, 2008, 08:29:00 PM »
Maybe I'm missing something, but all the APC props that are for 1/2a have too big of a hole in them to run on any of the engines that I have. how do you mount a prop with too big a hole?

Bothersome for sure, otherwise the APCs are good props for 1/2A.  I use a short length of fuel line over the mounting bolt to fill in the oversize hole.  Don't know what engine they designed those things for, I never saw a 1/2A requiring that large a hole.

I use the Oregon brand yellow fuel line for inside chainsaw tanks, 3/32 x 3/16 size available at Ace Hardware for around 50 cents a foot, fits norvel and ap prop screws well. A little more rigid than silicone hose. Also works well on a syringe for fueling.

I think the big hole has something to do with avoiding shrinkage of the hub in the molding process.  Some APC props come with an adapter.  I use several pieces of Aluminum tube inside each other to get the prop centered.
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

Every bag (that I've seen) of APC ½A props has a string of 4 adapters. Talk your friendly LHS out of one. I suppose it's possible that APC would sell a set at a reasonable price just to be sure you use their props . . .

Get ahold of Melvin at "MBS Model Supply" about the adapters for the APC props.  I think his son was making metal ones at one time.  Just google "MBS Model Supply".  DOC Holliday
