Hello Pilots

I came across this neat little airplane store the other day, miniglowplanes.com .
Under RC kits they have a big selection of planes iv'e seen no where else.
They sell most the 1/2 A House of Balsa kits along with most the Herr Engineering
1/2 A kits.

AT-6 Texan
Chipmunk
FW 190A
P-47
P-51
Just to name a few i really like.  I was wondering if these Radio Control guy's
can fly these neat little scale planes around why can't we ???

Can you guy's help me with this a little.  Will my Norvel .074  which run's like
a .10 be enough power to fly one of these birds .  Or should i just build there
designes from scratch.?  These kits are sure neat and there cheap too.

I think it comes down to what will they weigh ?
Under 10 ounces should be ok..getting over 12 prolly going to be trouble ?

    It depends on what you want the planes to do.  If fly around the circle is all you want then yes they will work.  R/C plane are not designed to perform stunts in the limited space that we fly in.  While some planes can be used in general it is easier to successively convert a C/L plane to R/C than an R/C plane to C/L.  ...and the arguments start...

You get no argument from me.  I flew a converted Extra 300S in the 2010 NATS Fun Scale.  (OS 55 motor) it wouldn't land worth a hoot.  I converted it back to RC - Lands great.  Big difference is you have 100 yards to set up the landing and adjust the glide slope with RC. No so with U-control.

Many years ago I converted a gorgeous Spitfire.  You would think that it would be able to withstand a head in crash from 300 feet but it wasn't even able to hold up to a simple transition from a wing over to a wing under at 60 feet.  The reaction time for the model didn't allow it to pull out in less than 70 or 80 feet.  LL~

I think you may be able to get decent performance from one of the "3D" RC types, except they all seem to have horrendously stubby wings and I've seen comments in this forum about the fuse not being strong enough.

But a scale plane -- the tail's going to be too long for stunting.  I have a profile CAP 232 that I built that -- once I finally put enough engine on it -- is a great flier, but it's performance is far more "trainer" than "stunt" because of the looooooooooong tail.  It'll do the round maneuvers, but there's no way to talk it into doing a square one.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Size wise they will fly..I was not saying they will stunt when I said if built under 10 oz. If they have scale surfaces. They most likely do not have enough control surface area to stunt. Expect to make the elevators at least 10-20% BIGGER.

Looks like it would be to much trouble.  And if i did try it --- It would probably be safer
with a .15 engine.
