1/2 A questionable....
« on: May 09, 2015, 08:58:37 PM »
The Replica magician is on hold as I wait for a monokote iron to shrink the polyester cloth.
So I have been finishing up a second plane that has been in the works for a while.
There are some issues though. As a 1/2 A goes it going to come out heavy. I am not yet sure just how heavy and well I am sure with enough thrust it will fly. Just not sure that it wouldn't need a bigger motor and battery. Might end up being closer to 15 ounces with everything.but we shall see.

If you can balance it without too much more weight on the tail, maybe a Tee Dee or Medallion .09 will fix it up. What kind of wing area does it have? You can make them longer or add some wider fixed flaps to give it some more wing if it needs it.

Jim; you will need 150 watts of power for a model weighing 15 oz (total weight including motor and battery). Our Black Tiger 2836C (that's the one we suggest for .061 glow powered models) will develop a maximum of 250 watts so you should not have any problem.

You are probably going to run on a 3 cell battery so make sure that whatever motor you decide upon has a kv in the 1300 range and weighs somewhere in the 70 gram range. That combination will generate sufficient rpm with either a 6 or 7" prop to allow the motor to run in the 80-85% efficiency range where it will be happy.

I did not respond earlier but will now.
Thank you for the reassurance. I am not expecting it to be a great flyer buy possibly a half decent sport ship.
