.008 bulk line?
« on: February 24, 2016, 05:06:40 PM »
I can find individual .008 line sets but I can't find bulk wire anywhere. Any suggestions?

Jim, I don't know what your intent is for using the .008's. They're very problematic requiring constant attention. There really is little to no penalty in weight and drag  using .012's. The terminations don't fray like .008's not to mention they can handle a bit more abuse. MBS model supply sells .012 in bulk.

I have used .008s for 50 years. They aren't that hard to keep going. Talk to Eric at rsmdistribution.com, he stocks the lines.  H^^

How 250% more steel (1.5 squared) and 50% more cross section could have no effect in the air is a mystery to me!
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

Great idea Roger. I've bought 70' reels from SIG and adjust accordingly.

The Tucson 1/2a multi scale contest is adding a Musciano contest to the first day. I want to take at least two entries and figure by the time I buy  two individual line sets I can just by 1000' feet in bulk and be set for a long time.

Be aware that the Fly-by-wire .008 lines on eBay are only 3 strand and not 7 strand like we usually use.

Go to American Fishing Wire and order the 1X7 Surfstrand. It is available in 300 foot spools or 1000 foot spools. If you do not like ordering on line just go to almost any fishing retail store. Most of them stock the 1X7 Surfstrand in the 6300 foot size. Only problem I have found with the retail stores is that they usually only carry the "camo" colored wire. That's why I normally go direct to the manufacturer for my 1X7 .008 wire since they will ship me the "brite" (silver colored) Surfstand wire.
