I feel a lot more empathy with you guys, today...
After very nice weather - sky, wind and temps - for the SW Regionals at Tucson last weekend, the tail of the beast lashed us, too.
I'm in Sierra Vista, AZ, about 50,000 population, 5000' altitude, 70 miles SE from Tucson - yesterday we set a record for all-time lowest recorded temperature: 3°F (with 10-20 MPH East wind.) That's why the geography and population lesson. About 4500 homes lost natural gas service; dozens, if not hundreds had water pipes burst, or at least freeze up; a few local schools are set up as "temporary warming centers." Nearby Bisbee and Tombstone doing similarly. Well, it just topped 32°F - first time in about 40 hours.
Tucson didn't get hit quite as bad, but for this southwest desert Sunbelt area, near the Mexican border, it is a trifle unusual! I didn't move to Arizona for this! I settled here BECAUSE of this.
Ah, well, we'll have about a hundred days touching over 100° in Tucson this Summer. Things balance out. Yah, right...!
