I heard on a news or talk program early in the war that Putin said he was after the Nazi's. Then it was said that during the Great Patriotic War the Catholics sided with the Germans. So is this true? So Putin now sees all Catholics as Nazi's so the victims in the newly found mass graves are they mostly Catholic?

In World War II the Nazis invaded the USSR.
To this very day, communists have an ongoing habit of labeling ALL of their enemies "nazis".

Few historical facts:
- Western part of Ukraine which at some point in time was part of Poland, does have a very large Catholic percentage. The vast majority of Ukrainians were/are Orthodox Christian.
- In the decade leading up to WW2, Stalin killed 6-10 million Ukrainians by starvation. Another 4-5 million were forcefully moved to the Asian side of Russia. There was very little love for communists.
- When Germans came to Ukraine, they said that they would allow Ukrainians to live without the Soviet yoke. Many were too happy to see the Soviets gone.
- Ukranians were further bamboozled by claims that "Communist Jews" will be expelled to Germany where they will be re-educated and given a place to live. Many Ukrainians believed it, including the Jewish population. The most famous example of how Ukrainians fell for it is Babiy Yar.
Perry, Putin does not care about any religion. To him, it's something to be manipulated, used for propaganda. He installed a KGB agent as the head of Russian Orthodox Church. That should tell you something.

I had not previously read of Babiy Yar, so looked online. Shocking is an inadequate term. The pictures give an idea of the scale of the massacre. And of course, Stalin did much the same. :'( Steve

But who decides if it's a sect? I used to work with a Russian who is "Jehovah's Witnesses". He told me stories of mistreatment that would make the hair on your head stand up. His family had to escape Russia and now lives in the US.
