Gene Scaffer's Stunt Machine Plans and Kits

(1/1)

Jim Catevenis:
                                                                 Gene Schaffer’s Stunt Machine

Tom Dixon announces availability of the plans and kits for Gene Schaffer’s famous twin rudder design from 1971.  Many thanks to Warren Tiahrt for providing his sketches and notes taken from measuring Gene’s actual model.  (See May/June 2016 Stunt News for details on the history of this design.) It has long been known that the plans presented in Flying Models are inaccurate in may ways.  This one is correct.
Plans are $10.00 plus $4.00 mailing fee.  Kits are $225.00 plus shipping fee at actual cost.  The kit includes a fully sheeted triple cored foam wing, as on Gene’s own plane, wooden parts cut to outline, and a custom made “wide-track” aluminum landing gear.  This gear makes it far simpler to install the landing gear, and to allow removable wheel pants/change of wheels for different flying field conditions.  You provide the other hardware.
The Stunt machine is a perfect platform for light .40’s such as Brodak, Double Star, or OS FP .40.  (The original used an OS .35S.)  It is competitive in Nostalgia 30, Super 70’s and PAMPA events.  It is not Classic legal, however.
We are also working up a contemporary design around the Stunt Machine wing and “numbers” to be called “Cadence”.  It will be even easier to build than the Stunt Machine, and a bit more traditional in looks.  If you would like an 8 1/2 x 11 size copy of the Stunt Machine or the Cadence plans, send me a #10 self-addressed stamped envelope to:

Horby:
Hi,
Is there any way to email the 8 1/2 X 11 copy out instead of using snail mail?

Cheers.
