Woodland Hills contest Akrobat DR .61
« on: September 25, 2006, 08:09:25 PM »
I just got off the phone with Rich Walbridge who attended the Meet and meat contest
Woodland Hills,Ca. There was a Russian Akrobat there I believe Jim Rhodes owns it.
It has a Discovery Retro 61 RE.

I understand Ted had his measuring tools out! And that several people flew it and liked
it.

My question is how does this plane compare numbers wise to the KA-10 ?
I thought I read somewhere that Ted had build a KA-10.

I have the DR 61 RE and all the parts cut out ready to build the KA-10 if these
are similar planes I will get busy building the KA-10. Thanks for your time .

They are similiar in layout, but without seeing some sort of plan there is no way to be certain.  Ka-10 was based on measurements of Kolesnikov's 1986 F2B plane, the Yatsenko ship like the one imaged at the contest has had almost 20 years additional development.  The plan I have seen of the "Classic 2" Yatsenko ship has, at a minimum, thicker wing, different airfoil, longer tail moment, different flap configuration.

I have considered doing exactly what you are doing tho, regarding making a KA-10 / "Yatsenko" plane.  I think its a cool idea!  The Retro is such an awesome motor, I bet any plane even remotely close to the Yatsenko will be a great flyer!

This must be the model flown in the recent Brit. Nats. Jim told us the model is by Yakovlev.
Ian Russell.
[I can remember the schedule o.k., the problem is remembering what was the last manoeuvre I just flew!].
