Walt Williamson's Which-A-Way
« on: January 14, 2007, 07:32:08 PM »
Hello Guys,

Maybe someone has tried this design to determine how this (as best as I can describe it  :P) simi-canard, airplane flies with it's double elevators - one forward of the propellor and the other aft suppored by two aft booms.  The airplane looks similar to a conventional canard,  :o  however both the flying surfaces, look like and function the same as a conventional elevator.  The three views of this airplane can be seen in Tom Morris's Classic Construction Drawings just above the Shark .35.  n~  :!

I watched Walt fly his which- a-way many times it flew like a bi slob It was a ringmaster wing and half a fuselage with twin booms on the original. Many times he flew it with a u-relly and held it in his hand to launch it then reeled it back in.

Jim,

Walt sure had a bunch of different (strange) models.  I really liked his Which- a Way and have some of the wood cut for one now.  The June - July '61 FM had the construction article for the Which-a-Way.

If you like I can send you a copy of the article via E-mail.  Walt always had a nice looking young lady showing his models in his articles.

I saw the Which-A-Way fly at the '61 NATS. It was the first time that I had seen the sabre dance .

Does anyone know if Walt is still with us?

Walt is no longer with us.  As I understand it, he died from injuries in a sideline accident while taking photographs at an highschool football game.  Late '70's or early 80's.

Walt’s mom donated his last Which-A-Way to the AMA back when the headquarters was in Reston VA. That model was in bad shape. I was there the next weekend flying 1/2A mouse racing with the SLOW club in the AMA parking lot. Vince Mankowski was there and stated that he was going to get someone to restore the Which-A-Way and have it placed in the AMA museum. That was the last time that I saw it. I do not know if the Which-A-Way was ever restored.
